RECAP: Ohio State Beats South Carolina State, 89-61

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State men’s basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season on Sunday with an 89-61 thrashing of South Carolina State at home.

South Carolina State kept it close in the opening minutes 8-6, but the Buckeyes would quickly jump out to a commanding 24-9 lead midway through the first half on the back of a 16-3 run.

Ohio State built up an enormous lead of 43-21 at the half on the back of a 17-point first half performance by sophomore forward Kaleb Wesson.

The thrashing would continue in the second half as Ohio State scored 46 points in the final 20 minutes to claim a dominant 89-61 victory over South Carolina State.

Kaleb Wesson led the way for the Buckeyes on Sunday as the sophomore finished with 18 points on 4-7 shooting including 3-4 shooting from three-point range, all three of his threes coming in the first half.  Wesson also grabbed five rebounds for the Buckeyes in the win.

Ohio State’s freshmen class continues to impress as three freshmen (Muhammad, Washington, Ledee) scored in double digits in the blowout victory.

Luther Muhammad continued to show his steady presence as a starter as he posted 12 points on 5-9 shooting while also grabbing three rebounds, dishing four assists and playing great defense as he recorded a steal.

Duane Washington Jr. showed once again that he can be a scoring threat as the freshman scored 14 points on 5-10 shooting from the field on Sunday.

Jaedon LeDee kept up his production from the past couple games as he scored 12 points on a perfect 3-3 shooting performance.

Junior forward Andre Wesson also had a solid contribution in the victory as he posted 11 points on 4-5 shooting while also grabbing six rebounds.

Ohio State will be back at home on Tuesday night as they take on Samford to try to improve to 5-0 on the season.  Tip-off on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:00pm ET.
