No. 15 Ohio State Survives Bucknell, 73-71

COLUMBUS, Ohio — I was a lot closer than most were expecting, but No. 15 Ohio State men’s basketball came out on top against Bucknell on Saturday with a 73-71 victory over the Bison.

Ohio State came out hot to start the game, making their first three shots of the game.

Bucknell was determined to make this a game, however, as each time Ohio State grew their lead, Bucknell would cut into it.

Eventually, the Buckeyes found themselves with a 37-25 lead with just four minutes remaining in the first half and it seemed like Ohio State was finally pulling away as the far superior team.

That’s not how the Bison drew it up.

Bucknell then went on a 15-0 run at the end of the half to take a 40-37 lead with less than a minute left in the half.  Keyshawn Woods would close out the first half with a basket but Bucknell took a 40-39 lead into the half.

The Bison came out of the half on a 9-2 run to increase their lead to 49-41 and it looked like Bucknell might start running away with it.

Ohio State came charging back though as they reclaimed the lead with 13:40 remaining in the second half with a score of 53-52.

A 17-3 run from the 49-41 mark gave Ohio State a solid 58-52 lead midway through the second half.

The two teams went back and forth for some time and Bucknell made it close down to the final seconds as they cut the Ohio State lead to two and forced a turnover to regain possession with 14 seconds left.

The Bison couldn’t pull out the victory, however, as Ohio State held on for a 73-71 victory.

Kaleb Wesson was the dominant force for the Buckeyes today as he led the way with a double-double of 22 points and ten rebounds as well as shooting 6-for-11 from the field.

Kaleb’s brother, Andre, also had a great rebounding performance as he grabbed nine boards and lost three teeth in the victory.

Graduate transfer Keyshawn Woods also had another stellar game as he posted 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

C.J. Jackson nearly turned in a double-double as he posted ten points and grabbed eight rebounds.

With the victory, Ohio State moves to 9-1 on the season.  The Buckeyes will be back in action this Tuesday, December 18th at home against Youngstown State.  Tip-off on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:00pm ET at Value City Arena and will be televised on Big Ten Network.
