COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ryan Day is wasting no time as the new head football coach of Ohio State filling out his coaching staff as he tabbed Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich as the Buckeyes’ new passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
“I am really excited to announce that Mike is joining the Ohio State staff,” said Ryan Day on naming Yurcich as a member of his coaching staff. “Mike is not only an Ohioan coming home, but he is also an extremely talented coach who has enjoyed success throughout his career. His Oklahoma State offenses have been among the most proficient in college football and I look forward to welcoming and introducing Mike and his family to our staff, players and community.”
Yurcich, a native of Euclid, Ohio, directed one of the most explosive offenses in the country the past six seasons at Oklahoma State as the Cowboys averaged 38.0 points per game and 478.3 yards per game during his tenure in Stillwater. He was also twice nominated during those six seasons for the Broyles Award, which is awarded annually to the nation’s most outstanding assistant coach.
During his tenure at Oklahoma State, Yurcich produced four of the school’s top ten offenses in program history and was an integral part in the Cowboys’ four 10-win seasons and four bowl victories.
Yurcich will receive a two-year contract from Ohio State worth $9,500,000 annually, which is a $150,000 annual pay raise from his contract at Oklahoma State.
Yurcich joins Brian Hartline as the second official member of Day’s coaching staff as the wide receivers coach had his interim tag removed in December and was promoted to a permanent assistant on the new staff.
This move has been anticipated for about a week now as reports were flooding in throughout Rose Bowl preparations that Yurcich would be joining the staff when Ryan Day officially took over the reigns the day after the Rose Bowl Game.
There has been no further news on who else Ryan Day will be filling out his staff with, but I think it’s safe to say this is not the only coaching change that will be made on
